Job Description

Speciality Doctor in Trauma and Orthopedic Surgery

We welcome applications to join our dynamic and enthusiastic team in the Trauma and Orthopaedic department at Scarborough Hospital.

The directorate currently consists of 8 orthopaedic surgeons providing on call, trauma and elective services at Scarborough & Bridlington Hospital. We have a 20 bedded trauma ward on the Scarborough site, a 16 bedded elective ward, a busy outpatient department adjacent to A&E and several outreach outpatient clinics. We have an established multi disciplinary team working alongside the surgeons, including Extended Scope Physiotherapists and Advanced Nurse Practitioners. Generally we would expect you to be working between 5 and 6 clinical sessions per week whilst on their elective weeks with 10 sessions of trauma activity (the trauma week).

The Trust has an ambitious programme of service modernisation and a reputation for providing high quality services. In line with our outlook, we are now inviting applications for this replacement post, in the Trauma & Orthopaedic team at Scarborough Hospital.

Scarborough is a moderately busy district general hospital covering the coastal towns of Whitby, Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington. We also serve some rural areas across a sizeable geographic area, including Malton town and Pickering.

This post is not a recognised training post, but would be ideal for those wishing to gain further experience in the specialty as the training, supervision and clinical experience will be similar to that of the training grade doctors and tailored to the postholder’s previous level of experience.

Candidates must be fully registered with the GMC and hold a licence to practise. A familiarity with issues of service organisation and development would be particularly advantageous.

The Trust also offers an excellent Staff Benefits package to all employees, which includes salary sacrifice schemes and local discounts/offers . In addition you will receive an excellent Study leave package and support your professional development.

Please note that candidates must be aware of the organisation’s expectation for them to be prepared to work across both of its main sites in York and Scarborough where it is a requirement of their service.
